Why I Built This
— Barry Allen, Founder 🇮🇪I didn't build World Safety Index from behind a desk. I built it because I've lived it — and because I've spent years knowing it needed to exist.
I was stranded in open water in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam for five hours. I was robbed in Nha Trang. I had a knife pulled on me in Dublin after stepping in to protect American tourists being robbed. As a kid in Dublin city centre, I had a syringe pulled on me. I was attacked in Redfern, Sydney. I was knocked out and robbed in The Valley, Brisbane — and had my teeth knocked out in the process.
Nobody warned me. Nobody gave me a safety score. Nobody told me the risks before I walked into any of those situations.
I was born to care about people. That's not something I chose — it's just who I am. And that will never change.
That's why I built WSI. One piece of information at the right moment can be the difference between life and death.
